SPRING GREEN — Five local schools participated in the annual River Valley Invitational. This year, 33 programs in all participated, with team standings split between small and big schools, based on enrollment.
Monroe boys were third in the large school varsity race, with the girls squad fourth. Albany’s boys were third in the small school race, with Darlington’s girls team also taking third.
In the boys large race, DeForest (75) outpaced Madison La Follette (80) for the team titles, with the Cheesemakers third (115).
Monroe’s Ace Rossing (17:01.6) and Kamrin Gerber-Reamer (17:03.6) finished 12th and 13th overall. Weston Huntsman (17:35.7) was 23rd. Madison West senior Nathan Schwoerer (15:33.9) was the race champion.
In the boys small school standings, Brookwood (44) came in first place, followed by Fennimore (78) and Albany (102). Belleville (199) was ninth, just ahead of 10th place Darlington (233).
Darlington’s Marcus Kendall (18:21.9) was the top area finisher, just ahead of a trio of Albany runners: Noah Lisser (18:24.2), Kamden Broughton (18:27.3) and Brooks Wachholz (18:35.9). Belleville’s Carson Biermeier (18:49.8) was 18th overall, followed by teammate Henry Koch (19:06.6).
In the large school girls race, Mount Horeb (85) was the first-place team ahead of Waunakee (98), Madison West (111) and Monroe (127). New Glarus-Monticello (268) was 10th.
Monroe’s Braylin Cleary paced her team with a time of 20:21.2. Nevaeh Huenefeld (21:17.8) was 23rd, just ahead of NGM’s Sadie Mitchell (24th, 21:18.8) and Holly Maynard (26th, 21:25.5). Monroe’s Alivia Mosher (21:31.8) was 27th overall. Mount Horeb’s Isla Odgers (18:46.1) won the race.
In the small school results on the girls side, Southwestern (54) fended off strong finishes from Fennimore (61) and Darlington (69). Albany (159) was sixth, and Belleville (243) was ninth.
Darlington sophomore Alaina McGowan finished third overall with a time of 19:39.9. Teammate Brianna Vazquez (21:07.7) was eighth, and Madison Welacha (22:17.4) finished 17th. Albany sophomore Emersen Butts (22:23.6) finished 18th overall, with Belleville’s Kate Hendrickson (22:42.5) taking 21st place.
