MONROE — The 10th-ranked Cheesemakers opened their new tennis courts with a Rock Valley Conference dual victory, 6-1, over Big Foot on Sept. 10.

“We had another beautiful night of tennis tonight as we celebrated our first conference dual at our new tennis complex,” coach Matt Bordner said. “Our girls brought great energy the whole night and made a statement in the first conference match at our courts.”

Monroe’s lone loss came in No. 1 singles, where one of the state’s top individual players, Annabelle Parker, made Cheesemaker Ryann Dahlman work for every point in a 6-0, 6-1 final.

“Parker looks to be one of the top D2 players in the state this year,” Bordner said. “The rest of our lineup really did a nice job of controlling the matches.”

At No. 2 singles, Kaya Holverson routed Big Foot’s Natalie Ross 6-0, 6-1. Jade Tran swept Emma Patek at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0. Miah Coppes ousted Vivian Giroux at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles action, Caedyn Blackburn and Elise McKenzie defeated their opponents 6-3, 6-2. Bralyn Liphart and Ella Mortimer won at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-2, and Telina Gratz and Paizley Kundert earned their No. 3 doubles victory 6-4, 6-2.

“The doubles matches were all pretty close early on, but we did a nice job of settling in and staying aggressive at the net. We’ve had a recent trend of winning first sets and coming out slow in second sets, so it was nice to see us take care of business in straight sets to avoid any super tiebreakers,” Bordner said.

Monroe (11-2) has two duals this week. The Cheesemakers travel to Whitewater on Sept. 15, then host Delavan-Darien for Senior Night on Thursday, Sept. 17.
