MONROE — The Cheesemakers knocked off 10th-ranked Evansville 3-2 on the road on Sept. 10, then took second at their home tournament held Saturday, Sept. 12.

Against Evansville, both schools went into halftime tied 1-1, but Monroe outscored the Blue Devils 2-1 in the second half to earn the Rock Valley Conference victory.

In the tournament at home, Monroe (3-4-1) defeated Portage/Poynette (0-9-1) 7-0 in the opening game, which included four first half goals. Stoughton knocked off West Salem (4-2-1) in the other semifinal game, pitting the former Badger Conference foes against each other in the championship, which the Vikings (4-1-1) won 2-1.

Raiders topple Columbus, fall to Edgewood

NEW GLARUS — The Sugar River Raiders split a pair of games last week, toppling Columbus in a Capitol Conference clash, 6-0, but losing to Madison Edgewood in a nonconference game Sept. 12, 1-0.

In the win over Columbus, who entered the game 7-0 on the season, Drew Brueggemann played a role in all six goals.

The Raiders scored five times in the first half. Brueggemann put the first one in the net at 15:50 off an assist from Adam Johnson. Liam Crawford made it 2-0 at 22:22. Arlo Belknap (28:00) and Kaleb Weber (42:58) also scored for Sugar River in the first half, before Brueggmann added a second goal at 44:26. In the second half, Wyatt Coon added the final goal of the game at 49:41.

Sugar River out-shot Columbus 30-8, including 21-5 on target. Goalkeeper Taydon DeRouin had five saves for the Raiders.

Against Edgewood, DeRouin had 10 saves, with the lone goal of the game coming at just the 4:30 mark. Edgewood out-shot Sugar River 17-6.
