Knights win Brodhead Invitational

BRODHEAD — New Glarus pulled off the victory in the championship at the Sept. 12 Brodhead Invitational. The host Cardinals finished second, Albany third and Evansville fourth. Fifth through eighth were Turner, Monroe, Monticello and Parkview.

The Glarner Knights were winners of their pool group, and faced Brodhead in the championship, coming away in three sets 15-25, 25-13, 15-9.

Brodhead had swept the prior four matchups on the day against Monticello, Evansville, Parkview and Albany. Chesney Walker led the Cardinals with 33 kills on the day. Paige Baumann had a team-high 10 aces and 29 assists, while Leah Rear finished with 41 digs.

New Glarus came into the tournament trying to rebound from a three-set sweep to Waterloo on Sept. 10. The Pirates won 25-11, 26-24, 25-15. Two Knights were injured in the first set, forcing the squad to try to overcome further adversity.

Cambridge 3, Belleville 2

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats lost a wild five-set Capitol South home match to the Blue Jays on Thursday, Sept. 10, 27-29, 25-17, 19-25, 25-14, 15-9.

Jocelyn Raven finished the day with 22 assists and nine kills, while Alise Alexander trallied 11 kills, Bryn Prochaska 10 kills, and Carolin Schoenike five blocks. Belleville also finished with 85 digs in the five sets, with four players reaching double digits: Korynn Potter (21), Taylor Schmidt (19), Libby Iserloth (15) and Hayden Caskey (13). Caskey finished with a team-high three aces.

Belleville (4-5) were at the Wiener and Kraut Invitational at Waterloo on Sept. 12, and host Waterloo in a conference match on Sept. 15.

Whitewater 3, Monroe 0

WHITEWATER — The Cheesemakers were swept by the Whippets in a Rock Valley Conference match on Sept. 10, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22. Monroe is on the road for the next four matches: at Jefferson Sept. 15, at East Troy Sept. 22, at Delavan-Darien Sept. 24 and at South Beloit Sept. 28. The next home tilt is Tuesday, Sept. 29 against Whitewater during Homecoming Week.

Fennimore 3, Darlington 1

DARLINGTON — The Redbirds fell to the Eagles in four sets on Sept. 10 in a tight match, 17-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-23.

Chloe O’Brien had 10 kills and three blocks for Darlington, while teammate Lilly Ritchie dished out 18 assists, Chesne Fink totaled three aces, and Alie Wineland tallied 13 digs.

Barneveld 8, Monticello 0

MONTICELLO — The Ponies were swept by the Eagles 25-21, 25-16, 25-20 on Sept. 10 in a Six Rivers East match.

Barneveld Jayda Oimoen led her team with 18 assists, 11 digs, nine kills and three aces. The Eagles had 11 aces on the night.
