ARGYLE — The host Orioles won the Six Rivers Jamboree on Saturday, Aug. 29, going unbeaten on the day, both in group play and in the Gold Division.
Argyle ousted Belmont 25-8, 25-20 and New Glarus 25-18, 25-18 in pool play, then shut down Southwestern 25-19, 25-16 and Shullsburg 18-25, 25-19, 15-9 in the Gold Division to win the tournament.
“It was a great start to the season,” said Argyle head coach Jen Butler.
Brooke Wellnitz finished the day with 43 kills, 34 digs and six blocks for the Orioles. Avari Steiner had 85 assists, 11 digs, two aces, seven kills and a block. Claire Holmes tallied 15 kills, 19 digs, five aces and a block. Brynn Harris notched 43 digs and 10 aces. Elise Kuebli finished the tournament with 10 kills, 15 digs and four aces. Haleigh Fish had 21 kills, two aces, one block and six digs.
Shullsburg defeated Black Hawk and Monticello to reach the Gold Division, while Southwestern knocked off Juda and Potosi. Belmont, Monticello and Potosi played in the Silver Division after group play, and Black Hawk, New Glarus and Juda faced each other in the Bronze Division.
Black Hawk went 0-2 in group play, losing to Monticello 25-9, 25-15 and Shullsburg 25-9, 25-10. The Warriors turned the day around after that, knocking off Juda 26-24, 25-19 and New Glarus 25-8, 25-5 to win the Bronze Division.
Brodhead 5th at Janesville tournament
JANESVILLE — The Cardinals went 2-1 on Friday to reach the Gold Division at the two-day Janesville tournament Aug. 28-29, and finished 4-3 overall, good enough for fifth place out of 18 teams.
Ella Olson led Brodhead with 44 kills, with teammate Chesney Walker capping at 28. Olson also led the Cards in blocks with 17. Elise Rear finished with 45 digs, while Kinsley Krumwiede tallied 39. Paige Bauman dished out 71 assists and Sadie Woelky had 45. Bauman also finished the tournament with 14 aces.
On Day 1, Brodhead defeated Delavan-Darien (25-19, 25-14) and Lodi (25-18, 25-21) before losing to Janesville Craig (21-25, 16-25). On Day 2, the Cardinals lost to Milton (14-25, 23-25) and Edgerton (15-25, 14-25), but defeated Baraboo (29-27, 28-26) and Madison Memorial (25-13, 15-25, 17-15).
Belleville goes 3-2 at home tournament
BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats hosted seven other teams on Aug. 29 at the Belleville Wildcat Volleyball Invite. Belleville went 3-2 overall.
The Wildcats scored wins over Johnson Creek (21-25, 25-16, 15-10), Princeton/Green Lake (25-17, 25-10) and Poynette (25-11, 25-23). Belleville lost to Fennimore (21-25, 20-25) and Madison Abundant Life (23-25, 17-25).
Bryn Prochaska led Belleville with 30 kills on the day, while Alise Alexander had 27 and Anna Alexander finished with 23. Korynn Potter tallied 51 digs overall. Hayden Caskey dished out 45 assists, while teammate Jocelyn Raven added 37.
