WARREN — In a border battle between perennial Wisconsin and Illinois top-ranked small teams, it was the Illini school that came out on top. Stockton, No. 6 in Illinois Division 1A, defeated Black Hawk-Warren, No. 2 in Wisconsin D7, 36-8 in a nonconference game on Friday, August 28.

“Give credit to Stockton, they were more physical than us, specifically up front,” said Black Hawk-Warren head coach Desie Breadon. “We made too many mistakes and didn’t take advantage of opportunities we had.”

The host Warriors could muster only 133 yards of offense, with 112 coming on the ground. Beau Podnar and Brody Argall each carried the ball 10 times for 23 and 22 yards. Dax Paquin led the Warriors with 67 yards and the lone touchdown on 19 carries. The Warriors were also just 2-for-5 passing with an interception.

Stockton (1-1) scored a touchdown in each of the first two quarters to go up 14-0 by halftime. BHW made it a one score game in the third with Paquin’s TD and 2-point conversion, but Stockton scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

Stockton finished with 305 yards of offense to BHW’s 133 yards.

“We need to refocus and get ready for the conference season. One of the things we talked about after the game was how we respond after a loss,” Breadon said.

BHW open Six Rivers play in Week 3 on the road at Boscobel (0-2).

The border battle between Stockton and BHW was the only one on Friday. Elsewhere, in a battle of defending state champions, Darlington (WI) defeated Lena-Winslow (IL) 35-0; Galena (IL) beat Southwestern/East Dubuque (WI) 41-14; Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg (WI) dominated Dakota (IL) 52-16, Harvard (IL) toppled Big Foot (WI) 29-21; Woodstock (IL) blanked Clinton (WI) 34-0, and Woodstock North (IL) knocked off Beloit Memorial (WI) 27-15.

New Glarus 10, Belleville 0

NEW GLARUS — The Highway 69 Rivalry continued as a nonconference game in Week 2, as the host Glarner Knights improved to 2-0 with a win over the Wildcats (1-1), which entered the game ranked eighth in Division 6.

The teams played a scoreless first half, but Quinn Marty connected with Tucker Sysko for a touchdown in the third to put New Glarus ahead. Freshman kicker Brock Weeden added the extra point and a 45-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Weeden also punted six times, averaging 40.8 yards per boot.

Offensively, Carson Prechel led New Glarus on the ground with 45 yards on 19 carries. He added four catches for 64 yards. Brock Roth had a 42-yard catch, and Brayden Schmitt had five catches for 37 yards. In total, the Knights had 224 yards of offense.

Belleville finished 191 yards of offense — 89 passing and 102 rushing. QB Rayden Taylor was 14 of 30 passing with two interceptions and had 31 yards rushing. Jackson Fahey finished the day with 55 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Landon Yarbough had two sacks and two tackles for a loss for the Wildcats, which had 16 different players record a tackle. Lawson Smith intercepted a pass. Thirteen Knights recorded a tackle, including 11 from Brady Baer and 10 each from Tyse Hoesly and Noah Garcia. Prechel and Garcia each recovered a fumble, and Hoesly and Ethan Colstad each intercepted a pass.

Evansville 41, Brodhead-Juda 6

EVANSVILLE — The Cardinals (0-2) struggled to stop the Division 4 10th-ranked Blue Devils (2-0) in Week 2.

Offensively, Brodhead-Juda was able to move the ball on the ground, collecting 185 yards rushing. Grayson Arn had 100 yards and a TD on 16 carries, while Wyatt Keyser added 40 yards on five totes. Kraig Walter was just 2 of 11 passing for 9 yards and an interception.

Evansville had 309 yards of offense — 197 on the ground and 112 through the air. QB Matthew Wickersham was 7-for-12 passing with 4 TDs. Nolan Schott had a 7-yard TD grab, Harker Schott’s lone reception was a 55-yard score, Karder Tway had one catch for a 19-yard TD, and Jaxson Daniel had two catches for 22 yards and a score. Wickersham and Jack Soltis each had 41 yards rushing and a score, and Larson added 79 yards on five carries.

The Cardinals will stay on the road in Week 3, traveling to Dodgeville (0-2).

Pecatonica-Argyle 21, Waterloo 0

BLANCHARDVILLE — A 2-0 start to the season is exactly what the Vikings were hoping for. In the final nonconference game before Six Rivers Conference play kicks off, Pec-Argyle took care of business against Waterloo (1-1).

Defensively, the Pec-Argyle allowed 165 yards of total offense. Sixteen different Vikings recorded two or more tackles. Reid Schlimgen recovered a fumble, and Brock Erickson and Braydon Slater each intercepted a pass from Waterloo QB Gavin Schroud. Erickson rushed for 91 yards and 3 TDs as Pec-Argyle had 237 yards of total offense.

In Week 3, the Vikings travel to Iowa-Grant (1-1).

Pacelli 27, Parkview-Albany 0

STEVENS POINT — The Vikings fell to 0-2 on the young season with a nonconference loss in Week 2.

Elijah Gunn ad Connor Knutson were a combined 7-for-13 passing for 70 yards for PA. Gunn added 25 of the team’s 27 rushing yards. Kase Hazeltine and Owen Moffitt each had 13 tackles, while Benny Uhe and Peter Roth finished with 10 tackles apiece. Casey Cole added an interception.

Pacelli (2-0) gained 345 yards of offense, scoring three touchdowns on the ground and another through the air.

The Vikings will open Trailways Conference play in Week 3 at home against Westfield (1-1).
