O’s sweep Juda; Redbirds roll

MINERAL POINT — The Redbirds opened their volleyball season with a road sweep of SWAL rival Mineral Point Sept. 15, 25-21, 25-22, 25-16.

Senior Sydney Beasley had 12 kills, four blocks and two aces for Darlington, which also received 21 assists and two aces from senior Laura Sturtz.

The Redbirds were scheduled to be back in action Sept. 17 in the home opener against Iowa-Grant, which swept Boscobel in its opener. Next week, Darlington hosts three teams: Boscobel Sept. 22, Mineral Point Sept. 24 and Platteville Sept. 26.


Argyle 3, Juda 0

JUDA — The Orioles swept the host Panthers in the Six Rivers East season opener Sept. 15, 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.

In the opening set, the Orioles led 17-14 before Argyle junior Tori Lantz tore off an 8-0 run from the service line to close it out. 

The Orioles then opened the second set on a 7-0 run at the service line by Jenna Allison. Leading 12-8, Kyleah Mick ran off a 6-0 run from the line herself to put the team up by 10 and cruise to a 2-0 lead.

In the third set, Argyle had big runs at the service line by Hannah Gierhart (eight) and Maggie Godfrey (five), which used a 13-1 run to close out the match.

Up next for the Panthers is a three-match road trip, beginning with two-time defending champion Black Hawk Sept. 17, followed by Albany Sept. 21 and Barneveld Sept. 22. Argyle was set to host Monticello Sept. 17, then play at Pecatonica Sept. 22.

The Black Hawk-Albany season opener, scheduled to be played Sept. 15, was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.
