Monroe ends long week; Ganshert, Argyle rolling
Schraepfer stellar for Pecatonica

MONROE — The Cheesemakers had a busy week, playing nine games in an 8-day stretch, including four games between April 28-30. Monroe went 3-6 during the stretch, including just 1-3 over the final four.

Monroe lost to Mount Horeb at home April 28, 12-6, then lost the next day to Oregon in a makeup game 9-5. On April 30, the Cheesemakers split a doubleheader with Waunakee, losing the first 11-5 and winning the second game 9-5.

Karis Paulson was 7-for-17 (.411) in those four games, including a double and a home run against Waunakee. Sloane Ambrose was 5-for-15 (.333) with two doubles. Olivia Feller finished 9-for-15 (.600) with three doubles. Katrina Sathoff was 6-for-14 (.428), and Sophie Golembiewski 6-for-15 (.400) with three walks. 

Sathoff, a sophomore pitched 11.1 innings in the four games, with Golembiewski, a freshman southpaw, hurling 12.2 innings. Ambrose, a senior, added four innings against Mount Horeb. Of the 37 total runs allowed between the three of them, 18 — just under half — were unearned. Monroe committed 17 errors in the four-game stretch.


Argyle 12, River Ridge 2

ARGYLE — Grace Ganshert recorded 12 of 14 outs via the strikeout, scattering two hits and two walks in 4.2 innings before being replaced by Mya McNett in the fifth. McNett walked three and allowed both runs before closing out the game.

At the plate, Ganshert tripled and scored twice. Lindsay Connors, Jenny Helfvogt and Chesney Leigh each had two hits. Helfvogt had a double, as did Megan Johnson. Sara Helfvogt stole three bases.


Brodhead 4, Turner 0

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals picked up another Rock Valley win April 28, blanking the Trojans thanks to a stellar day from McKenna Young. 

Young, a junior pitcher, struck out eight while scattering three hits and two walks for the complete game shutout. She also went 2-for-3 at the dish with a home run, two RBIs, two runs and a steal. Ava Risum and Tatum Hoesly each added two hits, with Risum scoring twice and Hoesly driving in a pair. 


Argyle 3, Benton-Shullsburg 0

DARLINGTON — Ava Wiegel and Maggie Godfrey each doubled for the Orioles, which got another spectacular performance from inside the pitchers’ circle from Grace Ganshert, who struck out 14 and allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings. 

The Orioles scored a run in the first, third and fifth innings. None of Argyle’s three runs were earned. The game was played April 29 at Sieg Field in Darlington.


Argyle 17, Darlington 4

DARLINGTON — Ganshert was a home run shy of the cycle, finishing 4-for-6 with three runs, three RBIs, two doubles and a triple in their nonconference win over the Redbirds April 29.

Hannah Gierhart had three hits, as did McNett. Connors, Johnson and Jenny Helfvogt each had two hits. Ganshert again pitched, allowing three earned runs in seven innings on three hits and four walks. She struck out nine.

Sophie Wiegel pitched the first 6.1 innings for Darlington. Cayla Golackson had a double and three RBIs for the Redbirds.


Pecatonica 2, Potosi-Cassville 0

POTOSI — The Vikings received a gem from the pitchers’ circle from Chloe Schraepfer, who struck out six and scattered three hits to get the shutout win in a Six Rivers crossover game April 28.

Kyra Chrostowski and Trinity Gruenenfelder each scored a run for Pecatonica in the third inning, the only frame either team could scratch off a run. Chrostowski tripled and Tessa Green double.


Pecatonica 12, Belleville 1

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Vikings took advantage of five Wildcat errors, scoring seven unearned runs in a nonconference win April 29.

Lexi Peterson was 3-for-4 with a homer, double, two runs and three RBIs for Pecatonica. Gruenenfelder added two hits and two runs with a triple, while Nivaeh Gross also tripled.

Schraepfer struck out seven and scattered four hits with no walks. The lone run against her was unearned.


Highland 2, Juda-Albany 1

JUDA — The Panthers mustered just three hits against Cardinals ace Grace Dreischmeier in their game April 29. Dreischmeier struck out four and walked two in seven innings. Juda-Albany’s lone run was unearned. 

Avary Briggs pitched all seven for the Panthers, striking out four and allowing just two hits and two walks. The two runs charged to her were unearned.


Highland 15, Monticello-New Glarus 3

HIGHLAND — The Ponies gave up an 8-spot in the bottom of the second inning and couldn’t chip away in a Six Rivers crossover game April 28.

Veronica Tollackson doubled for MNG, while Lilly Michek was 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs for Highland.


Belmont 19, Monticello-New Glarus 2

BELMONT — The Ponies fell behind 6-0 after the first inning and 16-1 through two in a Six Rivers crossover loss to the Braves April 29.

Ellie Eichelkraut drove in Tollackson with a double for MNG’s lone run.
