The league’s Top 3 individuals were Monona Grove’s Jacob Frederickson and Edgewood’s Ethan Arndt and Alex Weiss. The Badger Conference Tournament was held at Door Creak Golf Course May 25.

NG second at Capitol Conference meet

OREGON — The Glarner Knights finished just four strokes behind Lodi at the May 25 Capitol Conference Tournament at the Par 72 Legend at Bergamont course.

Lodi finished with a 349 team score, while New Glarus came in at 353. Finishing second overall and first on the team was Ty Ready, who carded a personal best score of 83. Zak Arnett and Darris Schuett both carded an 89, and Ben Lukszys shot a 92.

“Ty played really well today with a couple of birdies on the front 9 and kept himself in good scoring positions without much trouble throughout the day,” said Jonathan Goodness, Knights coach. “Zak and Darris were able to rally after a couple of double bogey holes and scramble together some pars to put up respectable scores.  Zak has been the only team member to participate in all conference meets this season as the other five members of the varsity team, which includes Luke Brecklin, were in alternate fall sport seasons.”

Goodness said he and his assistant coach knew this year’s squad had the potential to shoot low team scores and be competitive in tournaments.

“Having these six boys together now and focused on golf, we can see that potential materialize,” Goodness said. “Hopefully we can continue our progress and peak at the right time to make a push to state.”

New Glarus was slated to play at the Monroe invitational May 28. The Knights will host the WIAA regional at Edelweiss Chalet and Country Club June 1, moving up a division from years’ past.

“The boys have an idea of what it will take to move on to sectionals. If we can continue to play within our abilities, improve our short game and iron play while approaching the course on a segmented, hole-by-hole basis, I believe we have a legitimate shot to make a deep playoff run.”
