JANESVILLE — Monroe knocked off the Janesville Bluebirds in boys hockey Jan. 14 by a score of 4-1.

The hosts scored just over three minutes into the game  to take the early lead, but just 36 seconds later Monroe’s Brody Koehn knotted the score at 1-1 after a useful pass and assist from Benjamin Erdley.

In the second period, Patrick Alt lit the lamp with Cameron Newcomer assisting. In the third, Monroe scored twice more to seal the victory. Brady Spotts hit the back of the net at the 9:20 mark with Alt and Brody Goode registering assists, then with just over three minutes remaining, Alt scored again off an assist from Newcomer.

Brock Brandli stopped 33 shots in the crease for the Cheesemakers, which were out-shot slightly by Janesville 34-31. Both teams had three penalties and six minutes in the box.

Monroe has a week off before taking on McFarland at home Jan. 21, and then Viroqua at home Jan. 23.
