Argyle, Brodhead, Pec and Monticello all record blowout wins

MILTON — The Cheesemakers opened the girls basketball season with a 24-point road loss to Milton Nov. 19, 64-35.

The Red Hawks outscored Monroe 25-19 in the first half before blowing it open in the second stanza.

Taylor Jacobson led Monroe with 14 points, while Breanna Giasson finished with nine and Sloane Ambrose added eight.

Milton had three players in double digits: Holly Morehart (17), Saige Radke (15), and Tressa Shaw (14).

Monroe was scheduled to host Stoughton Nov. 23 and then Evansville Nov. 30 in a nonconference game.


Monticello 63, Madison Country Day 17

MADISON — Ellie Gustafson had 21 points and Dalana Trumpy added 18 as the Ponies picked up a second nonconference win in as many tries Nov. 18. Karlie Wilkins added nine points for Monticello, and Sarah Brokopp chipped in with six. 

Defensively, the Ponies were stellar. Monticello forced 34 turnovers and held Country Day to just 14.2% shooting from the floor, without allowing a free throw.

Up next for the Ponies was Belmont Nov. 22, followed by Parkview Nov. 29 at home.


Argyle 63, North Crawford 32

SOLDIERS GROVE — The Orioles jumped out to a 35-16 lead at halftime and never looked back in their nonconference win Nov. 19. 

Maggie Godfrey scored 22 points for Argyle, while teammate Grace Ganshert finished with 21. Chesney Leigh added eight points.

The Orioles were slated to be back in action Nov. 22 at home against Highland, then travel to Burlington Catholic Central Nov. 30.

In other area action, on Nov. 18 Benton defeated Juda 56-40, outscoring the Panthers by 10 in the second half. On Nov. 19, Brodhead blew out Rock Valley Conference rival Beloit Turner 56-11, and Pecatonica decimated Madison Abundant Life/St. Ambrose in a nonconference game 69-20.
