Softball Stock 2

MONROE — Despite committing seven errors, Monona Grove managed to beat Monroe in a Badger South game May 20, 7-4. Two days later, the Cheesemakers split with Madison Edgewood at Twining Park, winning 12-2 in one game and losing 6-0 in the other.

In the loss to Monona Grove, the Silver Eagles led 2-0 after the first and 5-2 through two innings. Monroe kept it close, getting back to within two runs at 6-4 in the sixth inning, but the Silver Eagles scored another in the sixth and closed the door in the seventh.

The Cheesemakers left 10 runners on base and simply could not get the big hit when it mattered the most. Monroe had six hits, four walks and a hit batter in the game. Monroe loaded the bases in three different innings with one out or less and scored just two runs in those situations.

Emma Wild took the loss on the hill, allowing seven runs (three earned) in six innings with five strikeouts, eight hits and three walks.

In the May 22 doubleheader against Edgewood, Alyse Maurer had four hits and Sydney Updike three. Maurer and Lizzie Snider doubled in the win. Snider finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Maurer was 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs and two RBIs.

Wild got the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing just one earned run in the complete game, with a walk, three hits and two strikeouts.

Monroe scored five runs in the first inning, then led 8-1 through three innings and 11-1 after four.

In the loss in Game 2, Edgewood scored two runs in the first and third innings, and one run in both the second and sixth innings. Maurer doubled at the plate. Sloane Ambrose took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs in 1.2 innings. Wild tossed 4.1 innings of relief, allowing three more runs, though just one was earned.

Brodhead 6, Beloit Turner 5

BELOIT — The Cardinals rallied from a three runs deficit to score a big Rock Valley win May 20.

Sophia Leitzen started for Brodhead and went four innings, allowing all five runs (two earned) to score. McKenna Young tossed the final three frames of hitless ball, striking out four.

At the dish, Young hit a 2-run blast in the top of the third inning to get the Cardinals on the board. Alexis Kammerer scored a pair of runners with a single to center in the fifth. In the top of the seventh, Young walked and moved to second on a Taetum Hoesly single. Young then stole third and scored on an error by the catcher. Two batters later, Bailey Matthys singled to right to plate Hoesly for the go-ahead run.
