Hodgson off to hot start at State Am

MADISON - Craig Hodgson of New Glarus had a stellar first round in the 110th annual Wisconsin State Amateur Golf Championships at Maple Bluff Country Club on Monday.

Hodgson shot a 1-under-par-70 and he is in a third place tie with Kenosha's Chad Ebert after the first round.

Hodgson had six birdies and eight pars. He birdied the 362-yard No. 7, the 559-yard No. 9, the 364-yard No. 10, the 191-yard No. 11, the 167-yard No. 13 and the 497-yard No. 14.

Monroe graduate Brent Quade was in a 14-way tie for 118th place after shooting a 10-over-81. Blanchardville's Chuck Chandler is tied for 159th after the first round, in which he shot a 14-over-85.

The tournament runs July 18-21. Hodgson will tee off at 1:50 p.m. today. Quade will tee off at 1:41 p.m., and Chandler will tee off at 1:59 p.m.
