MONONA - The Monroe High School girls track team ran to a third-place finish at the Badger South Conference meet Tuesday.

Monroe senior Jordan Hirsbrunner won the 300-meter hurdles (43.86 seconds) and the high jump (5 feet, 4 inches). It was the fourth time in her career that Hirsbrunner won the conference title in the high jump. Hirsbrunner finished second in the 100 hurdles, breaking her previous school record with a time of 14.99 seconds, and she took second in the 200 (26.15).

"That is a big accomplishment she should be proud of," Monroe girls track coach Matt Davis said of Hirsbrunner winning the conference high jump championship for the fourth time. "I know we are proud of her. I don't know of anyone ever doing that."

Stoughton racked up 170 points to win the Badger South Conference championship. Oregon finished second (156), ahead of Monroe (136).

"It was a battle," Davis said. "It came down to Stoughton and Oregon having more depth. It's a numbers game. Today, we lost the numbers game. They went out and competed and fought as a team."

The other conference champion for the Cheesemakers was senior Josie Eberle in the pole vault after she cleared 9-6.

"Our goal was not to jump as high as she could because she (Eberle) had other events," Davis said.

Junior Payton Sigafus took second in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 9-0.

"That was big for us," Davis said of the one-two punch in the pole vault.

The Cheesemakers had three place in the top eight in the 300 hurdles, had three of the top four in the triple jump and two of the top four in the long jump.

Senior Lexus Trickel took second in the triple jump (33-111⁄2) and placed third in the long jump (16-1⁄2). Freshman Cassi Gersbach finished third in the triple jump (33-41⁄4) and senior Alicia Kuester was fourth (32-10). Kuester added a fourth-place finish in the long jump (15-101⁄2).

The Cheesemakers' 800 relay team of Emma Sanders, Sydney Mathiason, Casey Rielly and Cassi Gersbach placed third (1:52.39).

Rielly took fourth in the 100 hurdles (15.95) and Gersbach was fifth (16.87). Gersbach added a fourth-place finish in the 300 hurdles (48.88).

Trickel and Mathiason teamed with Eberle and sophomore Cammi Ganshert to take fourth in the 1,600 relay (4:20.99).

The Cheesemakers' 400 relay team of Sanders, Trickel, sophomore Faith Koester and Eberle took fifth (53.57).

Senior Sydney Schultz took fifth in the discus (88-1).

"It was hot, and our battle was to keep the kids hydrated and rested," Davis said. "I think we were very competitive."
