Comets come out swinging

MADISON - The Albany volleyball team opened the season by finishing 2-1 at the Madison Abundant Life Quad on Tuesday.

"It's the kind of start I expected with our six starters," Albany coach Connie Wunschel said.

The Comets lost their first match to Cambria Friesland, 22-25, 20-25, 10-25.

Albany junior Hillary Best had a team-high six kills and senior Trisha Tourdot had nine assists.

Albany rebounded and defeated Poynette, 28-26, 25-21 and 25-16. The Comets also knocked off Madison Abundant Life, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-9.

Albany junior Sydney Bump racked up 19 kills in the next two matches and had 10 straight service points in the second game game against Abundant Life.

"She was just on fire from the service line," Wunschel said.

Junior Kaitlyn Schulz had seven kills against Poynette and Tourdot had nine assists.

Schulz added eight kills against Abundant Life and Tourdot had six assists.
