Michael “Mick” Culhane
Michael “Mick” Culhane

Surrounded by his family, Michael died in his home on September 24th, 2024. Born in Dublin, Ireland to Martin and Bridie (Morrissey) Culhane, he grew up on the city’s North side with his three brothers. He was a graduate of University College Dublin, where he earned his Ph.D in Nutrition and met his wife and best friend, Miriam O’Neill, on the water as paddlers in UCD’s Canoe Club. They were married on a rainy day in June, 1985 on St. Stephen’s Green in Dublin. Mick was a beloved Father to Aisling, Niamh, and Ciarán and an adoring and adored Grandad to Róisín.

An accomplished professional in the global dairy industry, Michael began his career in Ireland before bringing his work and family to Wisconsin in 1990. His experience and expertise led him to start his own business, Dairy Advance Business Consulting, which he was immensely proud of.

Mick was a traveler and outdoor enthusiast, providing his family with countless opportunities to experience the world on the slopes and the sea. He was a well of knowledge, and never missed an opportunity to give a history or science lesson to those around him. Michael was an aficionado of art, culture, and music, reminiscing about his disco days until the very end. With Miriam, he transformed a patch of forest into an enchanted garden, where he spent much of his free time. He took joy in surrounding himself with people close to him, constantly opening his home to friends who would become family. A true gentleman, he is so incredibly loved and will be missed beyond measure.

Michael is survived by his wife, Miriam O’Neill; children, Aisling (Ryan), Niamh, and Ciarán (Brianna); granddaughter, Róisín; brothers, Eugene (Carol Ann), Hilary (Siobhán), and Martin (Mary), parents in-law Eileen and Brian O’Neill; as well as nieces, nephews, extended and chosen family, and friends.
