John E. Dunlavy, Sr., age 93 of rural Blanchardville, WI passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home in rural Blanchardville. He was born March 13, 1925 in Blanchardville the son of Edward and Margaret Alice (Daly) Dunlavy. John attended Argyle Public Schools and later spent 4 years at MATC in Madison. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Winslow on August 12, 1947 in Gratiot, WI. John spent his entire married life in rural Blanchardville where he farmed for 30 years.

John is survived by his wife Mary at home; eight children: John Dunlavy, Jr. (Joanne) of Blanchardville, Michael Dunlavy of Browntown, WI, Patrick (Cindi) Dunlavy of Chippewa Falls, WI, Kathleen (Rick) Siddi of Bardonia, NY, Mary Lynn (Dr. Dennis) Dwyer of Brookfield, WI, Jo (Lonnie) Van Dusen of Browntown, Jean (Don) King of Lone Rock, WI, and Beth (Mark) Hoppe of Largo, FL; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Margaret Alice Dunlavy; one sister: Catherine Zurbachen-Maas; two brothers: Bernard and Arthur Dunlavy; a daughter-in-law: Debra Dunlavy; a son-in-law: Steve Tachon; and one great-grandson: Travis Dunlavy.

John is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Argyle and was a proud member of Mineral Point VFW Post #7629 in Mineral Point, WI. John was a WWII Marine Corps Vet, serving in Guam, Marianas Islands, and China until his honorable discharge in February of 1946. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. John will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 12:00 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (213 N. Lafayette St., Argyle) with Rev. Paul Eruva officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Blanchardville where military graveside rites will be accorded by Mineral Point VFW Post #7629 of Mineral Point. A visitation will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 from 11:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle, WI is serving the family.
