James R. Moe, age 79 of Monroe, died Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born on November 19, 1940 in Monroe, the son of James and Genevra (Fitzgerald) Moe. He graduated from South Wayne High School in 1958. After high school he began farming with his father and established Blackhawk Excavating. He owned and operated Blackhawk Excavating until his retirement. James lived most of his life in South Wayne, and was proud of his home on County B. He was the founder and first president of Badger State Tractor Pullers in 1974. He enjoyed traveling, racing snowmobiles, playing and watching sports, and flying small airplanes.

He is survived by his children: Lynda (Steve) Holland of Gratiot, Jeanne Siegenthaler of Brookfield, Holly (Shawn) McNulty of Mukwonago, Heather (Erik) Huschitt of Monroe, and Carey (Ross) Fowler of Lake Geneva; 13 grandchildren; brother, Donald (Helen) Moe of Reedsburg; sisters: Eunice Brennan of Monroe, Jane (John “Drew” Derrick) Phelan of Cincinnati, OH, and sister-in-law, Joan Moe of Charlotte, NC. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Moe; and two brother-in-laws: Danny Brennan and Bill Phelan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 2:00 PM at St. Claire of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke, celebrant. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery in South Wayne at a later date. A visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 PM until time of Mass at the church.
