Ellen Margaret (Speich) Schindler

Ellen Margaret (Speich) Schindler of Monroe, formerly of Juda, passed away on June 5, 2026 at Pleasant View Nursing Home at the age of 97. Ellen was born in Monroe on May 13, 1929, the daughter of Jacob J. and Irene U. (Roderick) Speich. She graduated from Albany High School in 1946 and was united in marriage to Frederick J. Schindler on January 22, 1949 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monroe. Frederick preceded her in death on May 5, 2000.

Ellen was employed for many years and retired from the Monroe Medical Center. After retiring she enjoyed volunteering at St. Clare Hospital. She was a member of St. John’s UCC, and enjoyed playing bingo, going gambling, and playing scratch-off tickets.

She is survived by sisters-in-law, Mary Speich, Ilene Speich; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Kenneth, Theodore, and Harris Speich; brother-in-law, Paul Schindler; and sister-in-law, Donna Speich.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Pastor Christina Schoenwetter officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are suggested in Elllen’s name to the Juda Community Center or Juda Fire Department.
