FENNIMORE — Corey Dresen got a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in a run and send the Fennimore Golden Eagles to a 9-8 win over the New Glarus Glarner Knights in a WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal on Tuesday, June 2 at Fennimore.
New Glarus had a 6-0 lead in the second inning, but Fennimore stormed back with five runs in the second and three runs in the fourth to take an 8-7 lead. New Glarus tied it 8-8 with a run in the sixth inning on Ethan Colstad’s RBI single before Dresen ended it with a walk-off base hit in the seventh.
Shortstop Nolan Julseth led the Knights with a home run in the first inning and scored four runs and Colstad drove in two runs. Second baseman Brock Roth had a double and scored a run for New Glarus.
Matthew Roth started for New Glarus and pitched 3.2 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits. Colstad took the loss, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits, and two walks.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Glarner Knights and ended their season with a record of 14-9-1.
