MONROE — A local man was sentenced to life in prison last week following a guilty verdict from the jury.

On Monday, July 20, Green County Judge Jane Bucher sentenced Derrick P. Nipple, 36, to a life sentence without parole or extended supervision. In April, a jury found Nipple guilty on all three counts of felony sexual assault charges, including one count of repeated sexual assault of the same child, one count of exposing genitals/pubic area/intimate parts to a child, and one count of causing a child under 13 to view or listen to sexual acts.

Nipple has remained in law enforcement custody since the conclusion of the investigation, which began in May 2025.

Formerly of Belleville, Nipple was arrested in Darlington on May 20, 2025 in what authorities characterized as a joint effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The Green County Sheriff’s Office began investigating reports on May 4, 2025, related to incidents of Child Sexual Assault that had reportedly occurred in the Village of Albany; and in rural Green County in the Town of Exeter.

After he was convicted of Second-Degree Sexual Assault of a Child in Green County Circuit Court in August 2010, Nipple was sentenced at that time to serve two years in state prison. Nipple also was previously convicted of a Sex Offender Registry Violation where he plead guilty in September 2013.

The 12-person jury trial was held April 8-10.
