Monroe 7th at sectionals; Darlington sophomore Brunkow reaches state

NEW GLARUS — The Monroe Cheesemakers finished in 7th place by shooting a 332 at the WIAA Division golf sectional at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club at New Glarus on Tuesday, June 2.

The top two teams and the top three golfers not on those teams advance to the WIAA state championship at University Ridge Gold Course in Madison on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9. Cambridge shot a 303 and Edgewood shot a 304 to advance to the State Tournament.

The Monroe Cheesemakers did not have any individual qualifiers. Junior Troy Spotts was the top golfer for Monroe as he finished 17th with a 79. Senior Hans Brandt and senior Brody Koehn each shot an 84. Senior Brock Brandli fired an 85 and senior Brady Stuart had an 89.

Par at the Edelweiss golf course is 72.

Division 3

FOUNTAIN CITY — Darlington and Argyle-Pecatonica competed at the WIAA Division 3 golf sectional at Trempealeau Mountain Golf Course on Tuesday, June 2. The top two teams and top three golfers not on those teams qualify for the WIAA state championships on June 8 and June 9.

As a team, neither Darlington or Argyle-Pecatonica qualified, but sophomore Tavin Brunkow of Darlington shot a 78, which tied him for fifth place with Justin Poad of Barneveld and qualified him for the state tournament.

Darlington shot a 345 and in sixth place with Brunkow as the top golfer with a 78. Junior Kaleb King shot an 85. Senior Blaze White had a 90. Senior Alex Fox fired a 92 and senior Broker Buschor shot a 98.

Argyle-Pecatonica also shot a 345 as a team. Junior Avari Steiner of Argyle-Pecatonica led her team with an 84, but did not qualify for the state tournament. Junior Blake Ferrell had an 86. Sophomore Tucker Bethke shot an 87. Also for Argyle-Pecatonica, seniors Cohlman Schlimgen and Caleb McKenna each had an 88.

The WIAA State Golf Championships will be held at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
