WIOTA - A tornado tore a swath about 1. 5 miles long between County K and Tish Road west of Wiota in Lafayette County at about 7:45 p.m. Monday, according to Tom Jean, Lafayette County highway commissioner, and the National Weather Service.
The tornado touched down first on County K, where it downed three medium-sized trees, blocking half of the road, Jean said.
He said another tornado appeared in Darlington township near County R and County K, but the major damage was on County K, he said.
The tornado followed Walnut Road, proceeded east to Tish Road, damaging buildings and utility wires as well as trees, Jean said, at about 10 p.m. while he was on scene with crews clearing the road. Walnut Road runs east into the Village of Wiota.
Law enforcement reported barn and roof damage in and around Wiota, and uprooted trees to the National Weather Service, according to the National Weather Service website.
Green County was left relatively unscathed from the storm, according to Dick Marty, Green County Sheriff's Department patrol superintendent.
