MONROE - Open auditions for the 2016 Showcase of Talent will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St. in Monroe.
The performances, held in January 2016, will be broadcast on Big Radio.
MAC will be hosting the annual event showcasing southern Wisconsin's and northern Illinois's wealth of highly talented individuals and groups.
Co-directed by musician and theater professionals Cindy Blanc and Peggy Miller, Showcase of Talent will be presented in the same vein as a live radio variety show, such as Prairie Home Companion. Emceed by Big Radio's own Dan Blum, the show will include music, comedy and more, along with an on-stage house band.
All levels and ages of performers are encouraged to audition. Auditions are open to adults, children, and any-sized group. Entertainment in all genres of music (popular, jazz, folk, orchestral, chamber, solo, etc.), comedy acts (stand-up, skits, improvisation, readings), as well as other types of acts such as dance, will be considered. Performers are required to audition a well-prepared act in its entirety, up to a maximum of three minutes in length. If an accompanist is required for the audition, please bring sheet music to the audition. Performance attire, costumes, or props are mandatory at auditions.
Co-directors Blanc and Miller said, "We encourage all types of acts to audition, even if you have auditioned in the past but weren't selected," and added, "We'd like individuals to think out-of-the-box with their performance: acts that are a bit out-of-the-ordinary."
Showcase of Talent performances will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 and 16 in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center.
General admission tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students 18 years old and younger, and are available at the Monroe Arts Center box office.
