Pec, Sugar rivers on watch for flooding

MONROE - Rain and warmer temperatures may cause the Pecatonica River near Martintown and the Sugar River near Brodhead to flood, according to the National Weather Service.

The service issued flood watches for both rivers this morning.

The watch for the Pecatonica River continues until Saturday. Flood stage is 13.5 feet and by 4:30 this morning the river was at 8 feet. The National Weather Service reports the river could reach flood stage by Tuesday afternoon and reports that minor flooding is possible.

The Pecatonica River could reach as high as 15.7 feet by late Wednesday and into Thursday.

Flood stage for the Sugar River near Brodhead is 5 feet and as of 4:30 this morning the river was at 2.3 feet. Flooding could occur by late Tuesday morning and minor flooding could occur.

The flood watch for the Sugar River remains in effect until Friday morning.

The Sugar River could reach as high as 6.6 feet by late Wednesday into early Thursday.

Rain was forecast for today and tonight with the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm.

On Tuesday, weather forecasts indicate a 50 percent chance of rain mixing with snow by the afternoon.

Snow is predicted for Thursday.
