Monroe man faces multiple charges following pursuit
Jonathan Alpizar

FREEPORT — On October 5, at approximately 10:25 p.m., a Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle traveling on Rock City Road near the Village of Rock City after observing that the vehicle did not have a visible registration plate. The driver failed to stop and fled from the deputy.

The vehicle continued for approximately 11 miles through rural areas of Stephenson County, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph. During the pursuit, Sheriff’s Office personnel successfully deployed tire-deflation devices, deflating all four tires and significantly reducing the vehicle’s speed.

The pursuit ended near the Village of Orangeville when the vehicle left the roadway while negotiating a curve and struck a large rock. The driver was not injured and exited the vehicle as deputies approached. He was taken into custody without further incident. No deputies were injured.

The driver was identified as Jonathan Alpizar, 21, of Monroe. Following the investigation, Alpizar was arrested on the following alleged offenses:

● Aggravated Fleeing to Elude a Peace Officer – Felony

● Resisting a Peace Officer – Misdemeanor

● Speeding 35 MPH or More Over the Posted Speed Limit – Misdemeanor

● Several additional traffic offenses

Following processing at the Stephenson County Jail, Alpizar was released with a future court date in accordance with Illinois law.
