MONROE — The Freeport man charged in Illinois with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, who was from Monroe, has had his bond revoked in a Green County domestic abuse case involving the same woman three weeks before her death.
Chad M. Blaser, 23, was released on a $2,000 signature bond in January after his arrest on charges that he caused a disturbance and damaged a vehicle outside the home of Gabby Petsche, 21. When he then failed to appear for a Jan. 31 hearing in the case, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
His bond was officially revoked March 1 in Green County Circuit Court, with Judge James Beer ordering Blaser to pay the $2,000.
The warrant continues, as Blaser is currently in custody in Stephenson County.
The day after his non-appearance in court in Monroe on Jan. 31, Blaser attacked Petsche on a street corner in Freeport, according to police. She died later that night in a hospital with stab wounds to her head, back and abdomen.
According to Freeport police, Blaser was riding in a car with Petsche when he started stabbing her as she drove on West Avenue, causing her to crash into a snow pile at the intersection with Pleasant Street, and then he continued stabbing her outside the vehicle before fleeing the scene. Blaser and Petsche’s infant son was in the backseat of the car.
Blaser was arrested nearby within minutes and faces numerous charges in Stephenson County related to the stabbing, including murder, aggravated battery and child endangerment.
He has a status hearing March 8 in Stephenson County Circuit Court, with dates scheduled for a potential jury trial in April.
Family friends of Petsche have started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the 11-month-old baby, Daymien. The website is gofundme.com/justice-for-gabby-and-daymien.
