TOWN OF YORK — A Blanchardville woman is dead following a motor vehicle crash west of New Glarus Thursday afternoon. This is Green County’s third traffic fatality for 2026.
According to Green County Sheriff Cody Kanable, the Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the afternoon of Thursday, June 4 on Wis. 39, west of County J in the Town of York. The crash location was approximately 5 miles west of the Village of New Glarus.
“Deputies immediately responded to the scene along with the New Glarus Fire Department, New Glarus EMS, Monticello Fire Department and a UW Med Flight Helicopter,” Kanable said in a press release.
Preliminary investigation determined the car was westbound on Wis. 39 when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle left the roadway and entered the north ditch where it collided with a driveway embankment.
“This caused the car to overturn and come to a rest on its passenger side facing east,” Kanable said.
Kanable said the driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and no airbags deployed. She was extricated from the vehicle by the New Glarus Fire Department and pronounced deceased on scene by the UW Med Flight Doctor.
The driver was identified as a 67-year-old female from Blanchardville, her name being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The vehicle sustained severe overall damage and was towed from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
