Pec finishes off Monticello-Albany, but loses regional final

BLANCHARDVILLE — The Pecatonica Vikings (No. 3 seed) defeated the Monticello-Albany Space Stallions (No. 6 seed) 9-1 in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal 9-1 on Tuesday, June 2, but lost to Palmyra-Eagle 11-4 in the regional championship on Wednesday, June 3 to end their season.

In the regional semifinal, Reid Schlimgen doubled twice, drove in two runs, and scored two runs to pace the Vikings. Luke Leonard and Kale Hendrickson also drove in two runs while Austin Enloe pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits. Enloe walked one and had nine strikeouts.

Monticello-Albany was led by Tyler Constantini, who went 3x3 with a walk and a run scored.

Pecatonica (14-8) advanced to the regional championship while Monticello-Albany closed the season with a record of 6-19.

In the regional championship game at Palmyra-Eagle, the Vikings (No. 3 seed) had a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning when Palmyra-Eagle (No. 2 seed) busted loose with nine runs. The Panthers sent 13 batters to the plate, aided by four walks, four hits, an error, and a hit batter.

Ashton McNett led the Vikings with two walks and scored two runs. Reid Schlimgen had two RBIs and Luke Leonard had an RBI for the Vikings.

Pecatonica finished the season 14-9.
