Elections

MONROE — Voters will go to the polls on April 5 to vote for a number of candidates representing the sprawling 31 districts of the Green County Board.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 pm across Green County.

Contested races in the race are in District 30, District 31, District 14, District 16, District 2, District 25, and District 24. In districts 11 and 19, incumbents failed to file notices on their candidacy and thus those aren’t on the ballot, according to the Green County Clerk’s office.

Financial issues dominate many of the views of board candidates, who received questionnaires from the newspaper via email.

“Most of the problems could be solved if we could find that money tree,” Russ Torkelson, of District 18, joked.

And Kristi Leonard, a 9-year veteran of the board running in District 14, also cited financial concerns and the upcoming decisions officials face on how to spend the county’s COVID-19 related funds.

“The use of these one-time funds is very important to potential projects that will positively impact households and residents of Green County,” she said.

Complete responses to an election questionnaire appear on pages A4-A7 of today’s edition.

Meanwhile, Incumbent Supervisors in the following Districts filed notices of non-candidacy:

●  Gary Neuenschwander — District 2

●  Kate Maresch — District 5

●  Steve Borowski — District 7

●  Oscar Olson — District 10

●  Arthur Carter — District 16

●  John Bernstein — District 19

●  Karl Blumer — District 23

●  Beth Luchsinger — District 28
