June is a traditional month for weddings and Miss Lena Herrli chose June 27, 1929 for her big day! She married Robert W. Stuessy in the parsonage of the Swiss Reformed Church in New Glarus, where Reverend Richard Rettig performed the ceremony. Lena’s wedding dress is among the artifacts in the collection of the New Glarus Historical Society and its bias cut, high-low hemline was a favorite, formal- wear style of that era. At some point following the wedding, Lena dyed her lovely dress a soft rose color in order to wear it for other special occasions and likely as an economy measure in the 1930s.
