MONROE - A Monroe couple's planned trip to West Africa to deliver donated eyeglasses and provide medical care for eye patients has been postponed due to concerns about Ebola.
Dr. Kimberly Lovelace, an opthamologist at Monroe Clinic, and her husband Hoyt Lovelace planned to travel in November to Ivory Coast through Global Church Planting Partners. Hoyt Lovelace is president of the group and Kimberly Lovelace will be treating patients with vision problems.
Kimberly Lovelace said while Ebola has not been found in Ivory Coast, community concern about the virus, which can be fatal, prompted the decision to delay the trip. The Ebola virus has caused almost 5,000 deaths in other West African countries, causing increased safety precautions for travelers.
The couple is hoping to make the trip in April.
