300 surgeries done by Dr. Swindle using Mako robot

MONROE — SSM Health Monroe Hospital and Dr. Jonathan Swindle, Orthopedic Surgeon, are celebrating 300 total hip and total knee procedures using the latest advancement in joint replacement surgery, the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System.

Many individuals between the clinic, operating room, nurses on the floor and physical therapy staff have done much work to take care of the total joint patients over the last several years.

“300 robotic cases with Mako is simply a way to celebrate the many people that have invested their time and effort into providing this service to patients that we take care of here in Monroe,” shared Dr. Swindle.

The Mako technology uses a preoperative CT scan to create a 3D model of the patient anatomy to generate a patient-specific surgical plan. The use of the CT technology aids in the accuracy of the implant positioning.

Dr. Swindle began performing Mako-assisted procedures in January 2020. A patient interested in scheduling an orthopedic consultation for a Mako-assisted procedure, or learning more about treatment options for muscular, joint or bone issues, should contact the SSM Health Monroe Clinic Medical Group Orthopedic team at 608-324-2453.
