MONROE - Seventeen students from Parkside Elementary School recently competed in the Southwest Regional Art Show at the Hilldale Shopping Mall in Madison.
The artwork was selected by Parkside art teacher, Briana Zajac.
The Art Show is sponsored by the National Art Education Association in celebration of Youth Art Month in March.
The regional show was held at the Hilldale Shopping Mall Feb. 11 through Feb.18.
Samantha Goodman, a second grader at Parkside, was awarded a first place prize for her painting of a dog at the regional show.
Naomi Niesman, a first grader at Parkside, was awarded Best of Show out of 40 area elementary, middle and high schools at the regional show, a tremendous honor for such a young artist.
Niesman was awarded Best of Show for her oil crayon drawing of a clown.
Both students had the privilege of having their artwork displayed at the state art show held at the State Capital in Madison from Feb. 22 through March 6.
There was a closing reception on March 6 which both students attended.
The reception honored nearly 400 student artists in the state along with their schools and art teachers.
