Parks and Rec plans programs for August

MONROE - Monroe Parks and Recreation will feature several one-day programs throughout the month of August.

"I Wanna be a Rockstar" is from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. The class, for boys and girls ages 6 to 12, will be decorating guitars, tattoos, karaoke, and rock star band may be present, so you can even try out their instruments.

"Yell & Tell & Meet Loki" will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. The class, for boys and girls ages 5 to 12, is aimed at young children who see something dangerous, feel afraid, but don't know what to do. The program will teach children how to take action in certain situations when approached by a stranger. Loki, the Police Department Canine, will even be making a special appearance.

"Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8. The class, for boys and girls ages 3 to 6, will be a party centered completely around Mickey Mouse. Kids will sing songs, play games, create a Mickey Mouse craft, and enjoy a yummy snack.

"I Can Do It Mommy" will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10. The class, for boys and girls ages 2 to 5, is a special art class just for toddlers and parents. Experiment with painting, gluing, sticking and playing games.

"Magic Tricks" will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. The class is for boys and girls ages 6 to 12. Kids will learn magic tricks and will get a chance to perform them with other kids and family members.

"Daddy and Me" will be from 6 to 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. The class, for boys and girls ages 3 to 8, will be a special day with dad spending some one-on-one time. Kids will play games, create crafts, and more.

"Down and Dirty" will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12. The class, for boys and girls ages 5 to 12, will be filled with messy and gross games and challenges. The day will also include shaving cream Whiffle Ball and the Slopstacle Course.

All one-day programs cost $6 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Register before slots fill up at the Monroe Parks and Recreation office.
