MADISON — Paramount Emergency Medical Services Inc. of Dubuque, Iowa, just filed a lawsuit against Rural Medical Ambulance Service (RMAS) for failing to pay invoices totaling over $212,000.
According to documents filed in the Wisconsin Western District Court on Oct. 25, Paramount is seeking invoices given to RMAS between April 18, 2018 and July 31, 2018 to be paid in full in the amount of $212,567.31.
In March 2018, RMAS contracted Paramount to provide “temporary backup ambulance coverage” for the city of Darlington and the townships of Darlington, Seymour, Lamont, Willow Springs, Fayette, and Wiota starting in April 2018 until December 2018 on a month-to-month basis. Paramount was contracted due to issues the RMAS board had with the volunteers of the service.
Both parties terminated the contract Aug. 1. Green County Emergency Medical Services (GCEMS) took over until Lafayette County began running the service on July 1, 2021. The RMAS board has since disbanded.
The contract stated that Paramount would provided staffing and ambulance coverage for a fee of $100 per hour ($25 for an EMT and $50 for a paramedic). Paramount charged RMAS for 1,992 hours of work. RMAS paid $31,432.63 of the amount during that time.
