MONROE — Matt Brown, Assistant Principal at Monroe Middle School, was named the WASC JAM Administrator of the Year Award by the Wisconsin Association of School Councils, Inc. (WASC)
Each year, WASC recognizes individuals for their outstanding dedication, and involvement in WASC. The WASC Junior and Middle (JAM) Administrator of the Year Award is presented to administrators who have shown outstanding support for students in their school and/or throughout the state.
Brown has served Monroe Middle School for nine years. He was nominated by staff and students at MMS for the award because of his support for students, his commitment to building a positive climate, and his involvement in the community.
Brown is very involved in student and staff lives, supporting their social and emotional well-being while still striving for academic success. He is a continuing learner and shares his learning process with kids to model that behavior. He is very personable and many students consider him their ‘trusted adult’ at school. He has been a great voice in the school’s District Equity Committee and being a voice for those that are a minority group. He has helped consider what barriers are in his building, as well as the district, and advocated for policy/schedule and other changes to help ensure all students feel safe and welcome in his school. His greatest community involvement was starting a community youth center in Monroe.
Recognition for the award will be held during the awards presentation at the WASC State Conference on April 23, held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
