MONROE — Main Street Monroe, the nationally recognized 501(c)3 volunteer driven nonprofit shared its fall and holiday calendar of events after hosting Cars on the Square, concerts, the outdoor farmers market, and its 11th annual summer theme and kickoff event.
Fall events kick off in earnest with Trunk or Treat from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, sponsored by Alphorn Ford of Monroe. The event will take place on the inner lanes of the downtown square. Since first being held in 2006, the event has grown to approximately 40 cars — all decorated for Halloween. The event is free for attendees and participants.
Main Street notes that the event is safe and secure for families; streets will be closed; the vehicles will all be decorated and there will be a contest for best decorated trunk. Anyone wanting to participate only needs to pre-register.
The City of Monroe also changed its neighborhood trick-or-treating schedule to coincide with the Trunk or Treat event, with kids able to go door to door from 4:30-7 p.m.
A few days later, on Thursday, Nov. 3, downtown Monroe will get uncorked as Main Street hosts its second and final wine walk of the year. This ticketed event will include 20 stops where each location will have two samples (one white and one red wine or a beer or cider) for sampling.
A wine walk map will be provided for note taking on which wines patrons liked or disliked. Attendees move at their own pace. Two ticket options are available: Early bird starts at 4 p.m., and general admission is from 5-8 p.m. Those with early bird tickets will also get a voucher for a specialty cocktail for Minhas Kitchen which will be open until 9 p.m.
All stores ranging from Luecke’s Diamond Center to recently opened Vintique Junque will have food pairings — many from local restaurants like Pancho & Lefty’s and Bullquarian Brewhouse.
Tickets may be purchased by searching for the event — Downtown Monroe November Wine Walk — at Eventbrite.com. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 608-328-4023. Anyone with questions is also encouraged to call. Designated driver tickets are also available.
Additional Main Street Monroe events include the indoor farmers market, to be held at the Masonic Lodge on the north side of the square on the third Saturday of every month from November through April, with an additional market on Dec. 3.
Shop Small Saturday is Nov. 26. Additionally, the lighted Christmas Parade will be Friday, Dec. 2.
Main Street will also hold its holiday promotion. Now in its fourth year, it will run from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31.
Terra Junk, owner of 213 Mercantile and Main Street’s Events and Promotions chair, anticipates 40 businesses participating in the retail promotion.
