MADISON - The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Green County is being acknowledged for its extraordinary efforts and dedication to the fight against cancer.

The Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones, and raise money for the fight against cancer.

As a recipient of this year's Midwest Division Relay For Life Top Per Capita Award, Green County is making a difference in the mission of the American Cancer Society.

The award recognizes the top five counties in the Midwest Division with the highest dollar raised per capita for 35,000-40,000 population. The American Cancer Society's Midwest Division includes the states of Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

"Green County should be proud of its support of the American Cancer Society and Relay For Life," said Suzanne Prochazka, Vice President, Relay For Life Business Unit, American Cancer Society, Midwest Division, Inc. "Relay For Life volunteers, participants, and communities represent the hope we all have for a cure, and the ongoing commitment to the fight against cancer."

Relay For Life is a unique opportunity for the Green County community to come together in the fight against cancer. Many of the participants are cancer survivors, which serves as a reminder that our community is not immune to this disease and that there is much we can do to help our friends, families and our neighbors who have been touched by cancer.

"We are honored to be a part of this uplifting event and receive this division award," said Dee Miller. "Our Relay contribution and the Green County community have allowed the American Cancer Society to play a leading role in progress made against cancer."

The 2008 Relay For Life of Green County will be held June 20-21 at the Monroe High School track.
