DWD releases March 2022 unemployment data

MADISON — The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates of unemployment and employment statistics for Wisconsin metropolitan areas, major cities and counties in Wisconsin for March 2022.

Green County’s unemployment rate in March was 2.9%, down from 3.0% a month before and 4.0% from March 2021. Lafayette County stayed steady, also coming in at 2.9% this March, the same percentage as in February and down from 3.8% from March 2021. 

Dane County had the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.3%. Iron County in Northern Wisconsin had the highest mark at 6.5%.

In brief, the nonseasonally adjusted data for Wisconsin shows:

●  Metropolitan Statistical Areas: Preliminary March 2022 unemployment rates decreased in all 12 of Wisconsin’s metro areas over the year and decreased or stayed the same in 10 of 12 metro areas over the month.

●  Municipalities: Preliminary March 2022 unemployment rates declined in all of Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities over the year and decreased or stayed the same in 25 of 35 cities over the month.

●  Counties: Preliminary March 2022 unemployment rates declined in all 72 Wisconsin counties over the year and decreased or stayed the same in 62 of 72 counties over the month.
