DARLINGTON — Breakfast on the Farm is back in Lafayette County for its 46th year.
The annual celebration of the area’s rich agricultural heritage is scheduled for 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. June 10 at Meylor Family Farms, 16209 County Road G, in Mineral Point.
The event was not held last year, due to the abundance of road work in the area near the farm, said Kerry Gratz, herself a dairy farmer and secretary of Lafayette County Dairy Promotion.
The 2023 event will be held rain or shine and the cost for admission and breakfast is $5 for adults, $3 for kids ages four to 10; and free for kids three and under. The event features live music, cheese door prizes and a petting zoo for kids. They are expecting roughly 3,000 guests for this year’s breakfast.
“It’s probably the least expensive of any of the (Wisconsin) dairy breakfasts,” said Gratz, attributing the low cost of the Lafayette County meal to generous donations from area producers and businesses.
Gratz said the Meylor Family farm is a multi-generational family farm, which is representative of almost all the dairy farms in Lafayette County.
For other dairy farmers, the event offers a chance to see another operation at work, she said, and for people who live in cities who rarely get out into the country “you get to take a look around a farm and have fun.”
Parking is plentiful on site but visitors are encouraged to take advantage of shuttle bus service provided by First National Bank of Darlington and Davis Bus Lines. Pickup points for the shuttle are at the bank, along Ann Street and at Pool Park. For more information call 608-776-4089.
