NEW GLARUS — The Green County Habitat for Humanity is hosting an open house and dedication for its latest project from 4 to 6 p.m. June 17 at 100 First Ave. The public is invited to join the festivities, take a look inside the new house and enjoy refreshments and a brief program.
The Habitat house, which soon will be the Greg Grunewald family home, was a community project. In typical Habitat fashion, most of the work on the home was performed by volunteers ranging from teen-agers, seniors, librarians and lawyers to entire family groups. Volunteer days were Wednesdays and Fridays and usually 10 to 14 people showed up to help. Steve Zuber was the contractor and Roger Lind served as foreman.
Work began last August. A neglected Victorian home previously sat on the site: It was demolished to make way for the new Grunewald home. Heavy rain has delayed the grass seeding, landscaping and installation of a sidewalk and driveway, but the home will be open to the public for the dedication.
