GCDC awarded $60K by WI for small business support

MONROE — Green County Development Corporation (GCDC) was one of 19 recipients to receive funds from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s (WEDC) Small Business Development Grants (SBDG). GCDC was awarded $60,000 to support small businesses, entrepreneurs, and economic development in Green County.

The SBDG Program is designed to uplift small businesses in communities throughout the state, with direct investment in small businesses, youth entrepreneurship, technical assistance and more. “Small businesses play a vital role in creating the communities we live, work, and play in,” said WEDC Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes. “But sometimes they need a little boost. With the help of our community partners, small businesses will be able to continue to thrive and contribute to our communities.”

GCDC will receive $60,000 towards two projects that will encourage entrepreneurship and create long-term small business support. Under GCDC’s Elevate Entrepreneurs program, a portion of the funds will be directed to Student Start-Up, which will provide workshops, mentorship, and funding opportunities for students aged 18-22. The remaining portion of the funds will be set aside for a very low interest Microloan Program to support small business start-ups and growth. With matching funds and pay-back returns, this fund will be a viable program for years to come.

“At GCDC, we’re passionate about supporting small businesses and encouraging entrepreneurs to chase their goals,” said GCDC Executive Director Olivia Otte. “With our Elevate Entrepreneurs program and upcoming pitch series, we’re excited to grow our support for both new and established businesses in more meaningful, long-term ways.”

GCDC’s Elevate Entrepreneurs Pitch Series begins May 1 with entrepreneurs pitching their business idea for a chance at cash prizes. The Student Start-Up workshops will begin this summer, with the microloan program starting in May.
