MONROE — Monroe Clinic & Hospital Foundation held another successful golf outing Aug. 7 at the Monroe Country Club. The fundraiser event included 18 holes of golf followed by dinner and a live and silent auction. Participation included 29 foursomes and 175 dinner guests, generating almost $73,000 in proceeds — enough to complete the balance of building costs of the Hospice Residential Home — a signature foundation project made possible through donations by many community members.
After dinner CG Schmidt awarded the foundation a $6,000 check to provide landscaping for the Hospice Residential Home. The donated landscaping services will ensure that the pleasant natural views available to hospice patients can be maintained.
Dr. James Davidson, Rheumatologist at Monroe Clinic, was the auctioneer. Bidders donated over $7,000 on just seven items — including a box-seat ticket package to a Wisconsin Badger football game, a solid oak pew from the original chapel of the St. Clare Hospital and a one-week getaway in Palm Desert, California. The silent auction consisted of 42 baskets because of the generosity of community and business members and raised over $4,405.
The Hospice Residential Home, opened in 2017, is suited for hospice-eligible patients whose symptoms may be managed in a residential setting, but are unable to have those needs met at home. The Hospice Home provides eight spacious and private rooms with wooded views, a spa room, a meditation room and common areas.
To date it has served over 55 patients.
