At 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29, Monroe Arts Center will present the New York City a cappella group, Backtrack Vocals; from left, Jojo Otseidu, Melissa Jordano, Mike Hinkle, Mallory Moser and Johnny Buffalo.

MONROE — Backtrack Vocals will take the Monroe Arts Center stage at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29. This award-winning, five-person group from New York City pushes the limits of a cappella music with covers of past and present pop music, original compositions and genres such as electronic and classical music.

Backtrack members Jojo Otseidu, Melissa Jordano, Mike Hinkle, Mallory Moser and Johnny Buffalo got their start on YouTube, where they have over 10 million views and 110,000 subscribers. Their repertoire appeals to audience of all ages. The group’s musicality is showcased as they perform a variety of music hits of today by artists such as Justin Timberlake, Sia, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and The Chainsmokers. Hits from the 50s, 60s, and 70s are also covered, featuring favorites from The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and more.

Since 2016, Backtrack has performed live on stages across the nation, including concert halls, festivals, universities and more. Venues include Carnegie Hall, Apollo Theater, Beacon Theater and the United Nations Headquarters. They’ve appeared on PopTV and Scary Mommy’s “Lullaby League” hosted by Parks and Recreation star, Jim O’Heir, Steve Harvey’s daytime show, STEVE!, and Broadway’s Kinky Boots.

In addition to performing, Backtrack is passionate about inspiring and educating the youth of America about a cappella and the performing arts. They judge a cappella competitions, showcase at a cappella festivals and provide workshops to students across the nation.
