MONROE — Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for female educators. Alpha Delta Kappa-Omicron Chapter in Monroe recently received the Anna Huff Award for Outstanding State of Wisconsin Chapter. Six new members were added to the local chapter this year. With 38 members, this local AΔK chapter is active in recognizing and supporting outstanding educators, promoting educational and charitable projects, promoting high standards in education and strengthening the status of the teaching profession. AΔK-Omicron currently has four members serving as state officers.

Last year the local chapter received the Barbara Beetow Grant and the Kathryn Saunders Grant, which were used to purchase Verilux HappyLights for each elementary classroom in the School District of Monroe. In addition, the Omicron Chapter was able to provide a college scholarship for Monroe High School graduate, Kelli Polnow, and a Black Hawk Technical Scholarship for Belleville graduate, Tracy Pulfer. Funds for these scholarships are earned through fundraisers throughout the year. AΔK-Omicron also provides support for national charities such as St. Jude’s Hospital and Alzheimers Association, numerous local charities, as well as AΔK’s international teacher exchange student from Argentina, who is studying at Notre Dame. The chapter appreciates community support for the fundraisers. The next fundraiser will be through Papa Murphy’s Pizza on Nov. 19, 10% of sales will be donated to AΔK-Omicron. The chapter has been meeting in outdoor spaces and through Zoom since March because of COVID, but is remaining active.
