MONROE — Monroe High School students have been working hard for weeks, preparing for the spring musical. That preparation comes to a head this weekend as the MHS Theater Department will perform three public shows of the Addams Family Musical.
The play is directed by Jenny Bochar, and the theater crew is advised by Brenda Davis alongside Alex Lentz, the choral director at the MHS, and Erin Hanke, MHS Band Director.
The screenplay was written by Marshall Brickman and the music by Andrew Lippa. The musical is based on the well-known Addams Family characters. In this version of the story, the main character, daughter Wednesday, and her boyfriend, Lucas, bring together their families — the Addams and Beinekes — by sharing a secret they have.
The show was chosen because it is a popular, well-known story. It also allows for a big cast, so many students can be a part of the musical. There are many characters in this story — all of the Addams family, the Beinekes family, and their ancestors. The Netflix show “Wednesday” added a bit of extra excitement to the production because of the popularity. It also added even more appeal to the students and the others involved.
The Addams Family Musical will be performed at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 and 24, and at 2 p.m. on Feb. 25. The play will be held in the Monroe High School Performing Arts Center (PAC). Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
