To the Editor:
Veterans Day is being held on Monday November 11th at many locations around the County and I hope you have the opportunity to attend your local Veterans Day Program. Veterans Day is a day to Honor all the men and women that have raised their right hand and swore allegiance to the United States of America. Around 6% of the U.S. population has served in the Military and less than 1% of the population is presently serving on active duty today. Veterans are men and women who you may see every day but may not know they were Veterans. They are citizens who gave up years of their lives to help keep America free and did not ask for anything in return.
A quote from George Washington, “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.”
Veterans Day is a day we can in fact appreciate the sacrifices of the men and women who gave their time, service and yes, their lives to serve their Country. If you have the time, please make one of the Veterans Day events in Lafayette County. All Programs and events are on November 11th.
