Fall prevention workshop helps older adults stay active and safe
Grow stronger and prevent falls this spring with ‘Stepping On’ Workshop

Summer is a season filled with opportunities to get outside, stay active, and enjoy time with family and friends. Whether you’re gardening, attending community events, traveling, or taking daily walks, staying steady on your feet is an important part of making the most of the season.

To help older adults remain active and independent, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Green County is offering Stepping On, a nationally recognized falls prevention workshop designed specifically for older adults.

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, but they are not an inevitable part of aging. Stepping On empowers participants with practical tools and strategies to reduce fall risk while continuing to enjoy the activities they love.

During the seven-week workshop, participants will learn simple strength and balance exercises from a physical therapist, discover ways to identify and reduce fall hazards at home and in the community, and hear from guest experts on topics including vision, medications, and safe mobility. The program is highly interactive and encourages participants to share experiences and learn from one another.

“Many people don’t realize there are proven steps they can take to reduce their risk of falling,” said Laura Steiner, Education & Prevention Specialist for the ADRC. “Stepping On helps participants build confidence and gain skills that support a safe, active lifestyle.”

This summer, invest in your health, confidence, and independence by taking a proactive step toward preventing falls.

Stepping On: Falls Prevention Workshop is Thursdays, July 16 to August 27 from 2-4 p.m. at the Belleville Public Library. Suggested donation is $15.

Pre-registration is required, and space is limited. There are no county or state residency requirements to participate. To register or learn more, contact the ADRC at 608-328-9499 or visit www.adrcgreencounty.org.

This Stepping On workshop is offered by the ADRC of Green County, in partnership with SSM Health Monroe Hospital.
