GREEN BAY — The Lady Phoenix’s season came to an end with a 73-61 loss to Cleveland State in the Horizon League championship on Tuesday, March 7.
Green Bay had a 16-15 lead after the first quarter but was outscored in the remaining three periods 19-12, 15-11 and 24-22. Sophomore Bailey Butler, a Black Hawk graduate, scored four points with a team-best five steals.
To advance to the championship game, Green Bay edged Purdue Fort Wayne 69-65 in the semifinals on Monday, March 6. After trailing 17-7 in the first quarter, the Phoenix rebounded for 45 points in the next two quarters.
In that game, Bulter was one of four players in double figures with 10 points. She was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line with a team-best three steals.
Green Bay ended its season with a 27-5 overall record and 18-2 in the Horizon League. Butler started all 32 games, averaging 30.5 minutes on the court. She scored the second most points on the team (279) for 8.7 ppg. Butler led the team with 45 steals — 20 more than the next player — and assists (130) — 57 more than the next player. She shot 85% from the free-throw line (69-for-81), with the most attempts on the team.
